The Shutter Precision PL-8X ships ready for 12 mm thru-axle forks, but with a simple adapter (sold separately) it drops straight into standard 9 mm / 100 mm QR dropouts. This makes for a unique kit: a modern dynamo build that works just as well on a 1990s steel tourer as it does on a current adventure rig. We call this one the ‘Weird Duck.”
The Sun Ringle CR-18 700c rim achieves the happy medium between cost and durability. Its sidewall accepts rim brake pads, while the deep box section is plenty strong for disc brake use too. One wheel, four possible bike configurations: QR + disc, QR + rim brake, 12 mm through axle + disc, or 12 mm through axle + rim brake. Is this xbiking?
Spokes are Sapim Race 2.0/1.8/2.0 mm double-butted stainless. Double butted spokes assure a long lasting wheel. Sapim 14g brass nipples are corrosion-resistant and far more forgiving when you’re truing a wheel years down the road.
The kit is designed for a 36 hole, three-cross lacing pattern, built to power a headlight or charge a phone over the long haul.
Be sure to order any extra parts / supplies you may need, including tools, spoke lubricant, center-lock to 6 bolt disc adapter, 12 mm thru-axle to QR adapter.

1. The CR-18 rim is not drilled or designed for tubeless setup. This wheel is intended for use with traditional clincher tires and inner tubes.
2. This kit does NOT come with a light or charger
3. This kit does NOT come with a 12 mm QR adapter. If you need one be sure to add this to your purchase.
