A properly built wheel isn’t just round and evenly tensioned, it’s also centered: the rim has to sit exactly between the hub’s locknuts so it lines up with the frame. That’s dish, and this is the tool that tells you whether you’ve got it right. This can be done by other means, such a flipping the wheel over in the truing stand and slowing moving one side toward the middle. A dishing tool makes this much easier.<\/p>\n
The WAG-5 works the way every dishing gauge should. You set the feet on the rim, drop the center pin to the locknut, then flip the wheel and check the other side. If the pin touches the same way on both sides, your dish is good. If it doesn’t, you know exactly how much you’re off and which way to correct. It reads dish on anything from 24 x 1\u215c” up to 29″ (ISO 547\u2013630) and doesn’t care what hub you’re running.
